Allergy Relief
If you're looking for some sort of Allergy Relief, once you have been diagnosed as an allergy sufferer and you are aware of the triggers, it will then become easier to relieve these symptoms through a few simple precautions, particularly with those that suffer from hayfever or asthma.
Remove and dispose of common allergic plants from the garden area. If you place allergic plants near to a window, these pollens will travel into your house via the wind or breeze. Replacing these plants can also be beneficial around the home as you can also use them to decorate, brighten and enrich your living arrangements. This will also you with a healthier state of mind.
Always plant native or low pollinating grasses as opposed to introduced grasses as they often require less mowing. eg. kangaroo, buffalo, or greenless couch.
Choose insect or bird pollinated plants. These are mostly native plants. DO NOT select wind pollinated plants as this will only irritate your symptoms.
The planting of various herbs is another precaution. Herbs such as mint, basil, chives, sage, tarragon to name a few can be planted near a window and can help with your Allergy Relief and also be used in kitchen cooking recipes.
The planting of climbers for fences that are low allergenic are also good for allergy sufferers. Native climbers include sweet appleberry, purple applaberry, wonga vine, and introduced climbers include varieties such as passionfruit, kiwifruit, and banksia rose.
Avoid if possible, any outdoor activities during the early part of the day as this is when pollen counts are high. Also avoid outdoor activity during dry and windy conditions.
When gardening, and if you have a chlorinated swimming pool, you can protect yourself from these inhaled allergens by wearing a mask and googles. Also when gardening, stripping of all outer clothing before entering the house will prevent any pollens from coming indoors. Always leave all gardening tools outside and have a shower or bath immediately after doing any work in the garden.
Always use a High-Efficiency-Particle-Air (HEPA) filtering system in heating and air-conditioning systems wherever possible. These will trap even the most minute allergens in the air.
If you insist that your pets sleep inside, ensure that they do not sleep in the bedrooms. Also ensure that they are bathed frequently.
If you have an area where it may be damp eg. in a basement or garage, installation of a dehumidifier is highly recommended as it will reduce pollens in the air.
Don't allow food to grow moldy. Throw it out at the first signs of contamination.
When driving in a motor vehicle, use the air-conditioning and keep all windows and vents closed. Some vehicle manufacturers have responded to allergen sufferers by allowing special pollen filters to be fitted as an accessory to their air-conditioning system
